Let’s step back in time for a moment and experience the Belle Époque side of Monaco.
Today we are heading to the legendary Casino de Monte-Carlo, one of the landmarks in the principality, to discover its incredible history and architecture.
For this mood, I need a classic car, so I chose to cruise in a vintage Morgan. It wouldn’t be a Bond-style experience without a gorgeous woman by my side, so I have Russian beauty Victoria Bonya with me for the journey.
To match the elegant style of the casino, Victoria is wearing a stunning long gown and I’m sporting a classic three-piece tux. I found this Dolce & Gabbana ensemble at the Society Club Monaco store, and it’s the ultimate must-have for any gentleman looking to leave a lasting impression.
Inside the casino, the architecture is astonishing. We feel tiny inside these grandiose rooms with large paintings on the walls and chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. The Belle Époque-style casino was first completed in 1863 by François Blanc, founder of Société des Bains de Mer. With the Hôtel de Paris on one side and Café de Paris and the Monte-Carlo Pavilions on the other, the casino sits at the center of a very lively gaming atmosphere.
Walking from the Salle Europe through to the Salle Médecin, an iconic room designed in 1910 by Monégasque architect François Médecin, we found ourselves in the Salle Blanche, with its sweeping terrace overlooking views of the sea.
At the Casino de Monte-Carlo, you can opt for games like European Roulette, Trente et Quarante, Black Jack, English Roulette and Texas Hold'em Ultimate Poker, in addition to the slots sitting in the Salle Renaissance and Salle des Amériques.
Just before playing a round of roulette, I realize I’m late for a call. I excuse myself and head over to the breathtaking mosaic bar in the Salle Blanche.
For business, I love chatting on the ultra-slim Vertu Signature luxury phone in red—my favorite color. Crafted with 83 carats of Sapphire Crystal, the patented Ruby keypad contains 4,75 carats of solid ruby bearings and the finest leather finish ensuring a perfect grip. Beauty goes with performance and power here: unmatched acoustics make every sound crystal clear. Of course having a personal concierge service and exclusive Vertu Life event invitations is one of the best aspects of owning one of these beauties.
While we’re here, let’s take a quick glance at my wrist. I’m wearing the exclusive L.U.C XPS Fairmined by Chopard, a limited edition watch made with 18-carat fairmined rose gold. The design is minimalist in style, with an ultra-thin case and unique dark dial inspired by gold nuggets sitting on a slate-grey face.
Now that my calls are done, it’s time to get back to the game. What made our roulette experience unique here in Monaco, is that the casino offered us to play with vintage chips from the past century, enhancing that whimsical Old World feel.
Before leaving, we make a stop at the cutest restaurant in the casino, the Train Bleu. After a quick bite, we’re off to see what else Monte-Carlo has in store for us this evening.
