After the hot summer we had in the French Riviera, we decided to take a mid-fall escape somewhere fresh and romantic. Always trying to surprise my lady, I began searching for a spot that was both natural and relaxing, filled with history and authenticity somewhere along the Côte d’Azur.
For the weekend getaway, I knew I wanted to go with a hotel that’s luxurious, but still feels like a private and intimate escape. That’s how I settled on one of the eight suites at the Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat, set on the super-glam peninsula (home to the rich and famous) just a few kilometers from Monaco. Not only is the hotel in the perfect location, it also offers some of the best service imaginable.
Our one-of-a-kind suite led out to a large terrace with a private pool overlooking the sea—the perfect spot for us to sip the Champagne offered on arrival and, who knows, perhaps take a private midnight swim later on.
The large suite had a minimalist and tasteful contemporary design, featuring exceptional Elisabeth Stein paintings, as well as Matisse reproductions on the walls. Architect Pierre-Yves Rochon added a modern and unique feeling incorporating furniture made of precious marble.
Not only was the room top-of-the-line, the hotel paid extra attention to detail, placing flower bouquets in each room and an explosion of red roses in the master bedroom. As a couple staying here, I can tell you this made all the difference. The hotel also upped the romance factor through the room design, with the bathroom featuring a large window offering a direct view of the king-sized bed, something I like when traveling since it makes the space seem even larger.
After enjoying the comfort of our suite, it was time to head outdoors and breathe in some of the fresh Côte d’Azur air. Set in the heart of 7 hectares of green space, the location of the Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is one of its finest features, with plenty of paths spiraling through the well-designed gardens.
Landscape architect Jean Mus‘ expert design incorporates a variety of trees and plants that have grown over the years with time and passion, and that’s something that really caught my eye. The holistic element was also enhanced by the sunlight, sea view and super quiet atmosphere. Just outside of the hotel’s spa in the gardens we found a little bench, a cozy place under the shade of the tall century trees, where we could chat and take in the surroundings privately.
How could we dream of a better place for a relaxing and romantic getaway? This small piece of heaven was ours for a few days, and the hotel’s warm welcome and impeccable service made this moment even more unforgettable.
With its original rotonde designed by Gustave Eiffel in 1909 over a hundred years ago, the Four Seasons Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat has kept its identity intact from decade to decade.
Over the years, the hotel has drawn lovers of the sea and sun, Côte d’Azur, and French gastronomy, in addition to the numerous celebrities who head here for the hotel’s discreet yet inviting nature. It was such a pleasure to spend a few days here while working on this story.
You may know my taste in style by now, but I wanted to share a few details about the look I decided to wear that day. A three-piece suit was definitely not too much—plus it’s one of my favorite menswear pieces—and this one was designed by Tom Ford, found at the Society Club store in Monaco.
His meticulous attention to detail, distinct square pattern and unique blue color—combined with a sharp tie and pocket square—made for a remarkable combo.
For this look, I added a must-have accessory on the French Riviera: a pair of top-notch sunglasses by Thom Browne, the TB-708, which are handcrafted in Japan using light materials. I love the stylish round shape and navy blue color on the front, matched with the 18K gold finish on the sides.
For the shoes, I donned a pair of Valentino double monk-strap shoes in brushed calf leather, a classic Italian staple.
Let’s finish with my watch, the Montblanc Star Classic Automatic, a distinguished timepiece with an elegant shape. I love its minimalist design, exceptional slim case and subtle mix of precious materials with stainless steel, 18K red gold and a brown alligator-skin strap.
On my lady you’ll see a very elegant look from Harfy Shop Store, paired with a few beautiful accessories like the 24K gold Leisure Society Shades, and jewelry and watch that are part of Montblanc’s Princess Grace de Monaco Collection. This slick combo and clean design is discrete enough to be worn during the day, but classy and bold enough to look like a queen.
