Sea Trials with
De Antonio Yachts
It was only a few weeks ago that I was in St. Tropez, enjoying my time in Pampelonne with friends and good weather. But I have a strong affinity for the place, so when I was invited by De Antonio Yachts to return, I couldn’t refuse - they were hosting an event for their sea trials and wanted me to be a part of the action!
It began with a helicopter transfer from Monaco to St. Tropez, and I was super excited to fly over several De Antonio yachts in the bay area as if being shown a preview of what I was about to experience.
We drew closer to our destination, where the brand new 2020 Bentley Bentayga was awaiting our arrival. Having experienced several cars from the marque over the years, I am a huge fan of Bentley, and the new Bentayga is nothing short of remarkable. The most striking aspect of the new car is its appearance, having undergone a facelift which in my opinion makes the car appear far more elegant. The smooth ride was just how I remembered it being, as we made our way down to the port in style.
Upon arrival I was greeted by an array of boats from De Antonio and had to make the tough decision of choosing which ones to test out at sea. I opted for the D42, which is a 12-metre cruiser ideal for family and friends. The boat has an amazing layout, featuring a walk-around deck and plenty of seating/lounging space to host social gatherings. I tested two of these, in both white and grey, because why not right?
Pulling out of the port was effortless thanks to the state-of-the-art onboard navigation system, and the yacht handled incredibly well at low speed. As I left St. Tropez behind me I was able to unleash the full 1,200bhp at my disposal, edging close to the 46-knot maximum speed of the D42. It was great to be back on the water with the wind in my hair and ocean spray on my face!
The yacht is really spacious for its size, accommodating 12 passengers and housing 2 cabins below deck alongside a bathroom. Depending on personal configuration the D42 can be fitted with an exterior kitchen as well as a central garage, spacious enough for a small tender. Whilst only testing the boat for one day I was able to fully appreciate and experience the array of functions and gadgets onboard, and it became clear to me just how easy and effortless day-to-day ownership of the D42 would be!
A huge thanks to De Antonio Yachts for hosting me. You can find out more information about their yachts here:
