As you already know, I am passionate about everything elegant, stylish, original and creative, and Monte-Carlo offers an experience that combines all of these qualities into its one-of-a-kind Shopping Promenade. Fashion and style have an important place in the Principality, especially one with a reputation like Monaco, which hosts some of the most glamorous events in the world and attracts the upper echelons of society: models, movie stars, influencers, business people, jetsetters, VIPs, etc. This means the fashion offerings have to always stay one step ahead of the curb to offer the latest styles in the chicest boutiques.
The Shopping Promenade consists of an open-air luxury tour of over 40 boutiques from prestigious brands around the famous Place du Casino. Of course this place is one of the most secure in the world with its continuous surveillance, and it’s always a pleasure to walk around and pick up a new fashion find, whether it’s ready-to-wear, haute couture, accessories, watches or jewelry.
We started our tour in the Allée François Blanc after valeting our show-stopping classic car—a 1959 Corvette C1 that’s just as beautiful to watch as it is to drive. Since my style is pretty classic, it’s no surprise I have an attraction to classic cars. They offer an incomparable driving experience, are full of history, and some of them, like this Corvette, sport a timeless design that’s still inspiring to the automotive industry today.
But let’s get back to our main topic today: fashion and shopping. The Shopping Promenade keeps on going past the Place du Casino to the prestigious avenue de Monte-Carlo. It winds around the Hôtel Hermitage and finishes in the Monte-Carlo Pavilions, a set of design-savvy, contemporary buildings that look like sculptures. The shopping experience is topped off by the warm sun and blue sky that the Côte d’Azur is famous for.
I’ve never experienced anything like the Monte-Carlo Pavilions in any other country, so let me fill you in a bit on the details. The five white pebble-shaped spaces are set in the Boulingrins Gardens near the Place du Casino, and the project was more of a botanical challenge than a shopping or architectural one for Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer to create these exotic and exuberant structures.
Talented landscaper Jean Mus was the mastermind behind the project, crafting the perfect balance between Monaco’s urban landscape and the “Petite Afrique” gardens. The round, futuristic shapes contrast with the green park and the classic architectural style of the Place du Casino, melding perfectly into place with their super sharp and edgy lines.
Imagined and designed by architects Chérif Jahlan and Richard Martinet, they cover a surface of 2,500 sqm and feature 20 shops. Each of the pavilions is unique in its design, with a shell made of dismantleable aluminum panels.
They’ll be placed here for four years while the renovations take place at the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo and the Sporting d’Hiver. A glamorous shopping experience is awaiting, giving shoppers the option to organize private shopping sessions or, even better, the possibility of privatizing a store for a private fashion show.
The brands at the pavilions include Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen, Miu Miu, Czarina, Yves Saint-Laurent, Chopard, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Stardust, Zendrini, Akris, Céline, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Chanel. As for fine watches and jewelry, you’ll find Piaget, Boucheron, Chopard and Bulgari. Stroll alongside the promenade and you’ll come across shops like Zegg & Cerlati, Richard Mille and Loro Piana.
