A word from Tom.
I love fashion because it’s a way that everyone can transform themselves and get into a different character’s skin. It’s a game I enjoy. It’s a game where this generous energy brings to life an inanimate piece of material that has been shaped by the creative spirit of a designer’s vision.
I very much enjoyed the time I spent with Margarita Kiseleva and Stéphane Gagnard at the Projecteurs studio, which you can see in the photos. I mostly move in a world of elegance, and the outfits and designs presented today convey a huge amount of energy, character and eccentricity.
Marni’s collection gives off a lot of joy and lightness in the expertly assembled colours and the relaxed way they can be worn; it looks so easy in the photos. Dries Van Noten explores stripes and wild, animal-inspired patterns. The fabrics are fluid, with a magical touch where the light shows through the sheer material. The hood makes you feel fabulously feline. My favourite accessory, just seen on the photo, is the strap, which adds the kind of vintage edge that I love. Zips, wide pockets, shading and layering… Maison Margiela’s range includes complex pieces as well as solid classics like black and white stripes. My favourite item, because there always is one, comes from Rick Owens: slim fit, “all black everything”, a powerful yet simple look (apart from the shoes which are totally original). This style immediately stood out for me, it’s dark and shiny, and it was at that moment that I recognised Owens’ distinctive character and talent.
