ST. MORITZ GETAWAY WITH THE
Last Summer in Monte-Carlo was abundant with new memories and adventures, many of which I shared with you on the blog. However, the Mediterranean sun can be unforgiving, bringing lengthy waves of heat and humidity. So to escape this persistence I decided to introduce a destination with a way cooler climate, somewhere refreshing and remote to escape the hectic Monacan lifestyle and for you to get some inspiration before the upcoming winter.
With that said, all I had left was to choose where to go !
My decision was made, and I was heading to St. Moritz… This ski paradise would be the perfect escape to surround myself in tranquility and the finest snow!
The adventure commences at Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport where my friend Aurianne and I board the Citation Mustang C510 Jet sitting on the tarmac; courtesy of Globeair, Europe’s leading private jet operator. With a fleet of 16 Citation Mustang jets, Globeair offers the finest business and lifestyle solution for the modern traveller and thanks to the small size of the C510, landing at Samedan airport would be a breeze!
After 30 minutes of flight, the jet begins the descent into the Engadin Valley, in-between the snow capped mountains of the Albula Alps.
With the airport a few kilometres North East of St. Moritz, we are offered a Bentley Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase to chauffeur us to the hotel. Designed for customers with a preference for being driven, it offers a first-class air-travel experience on the road. The centre console combined with the leg rests and exquisite finishing on all wood, leather and metal components creates an environment near-impossible to refuse!
However, we are adamant to reach our destination, so if there is an option available which will reduce the travel time further, we’ll take it!
Thankfully we’re in luck. Across the tarmac a private helicopter from the Airbus Corporate Helicopters range, the ACH130 awaits our arrival, ready to carry us to the hotel heliport. With a stealth black livery and light cream leather interior, even I cannot help but crack a smile! The strikingly seductive design is enough to evoke excitement from even the most frequent of flyers. The shrouded tail rotor is particularly eye catching, designed to maximise safety and the sleek appearance of the ACH130.
SEDUCTIVE & SLEEK DESIGN
The crew take our luggage and we climb aboard into the cocoon of cream leather and spacious seating, which radiate design cues similar to those found in a sports car. Bubble windows provide maximum viewing pleasure of the valley as the rotor begins to whir and the helicopter lifts off the tarmac.
The flight is smooth and enjoyable; the cabin providing an ideal environment for our conversation and laughter.
In no time at all the pilot lands us at the Carlton Hotel St. Moritz, where we are staying for the duration of our trip. Despite the door to door service thanks to our helicopter flight, it doesn’t take long to feel the biting cold of the alpine breeze.
DOOR TO DOOR
So when we reach the lobby we settle down by the fireplace to enjoy some afternoon tea and coffee, whilst I catch up with the latest Financial Times headlines. What a way to warm up!
The day soon turns to night as we enjoy the outdoor jacuzzi and dinner awaits us on the terrace overlooking the specular snow-covered valley. This is the perfect evening to enjoy a bottle of Dom Pérignon P2 with the finest gastronomic creations in the region thanks to the highly experienced chefs at the Carlton; home to Da Vittorio - a Michelin star restaurant.
The morning sun signals the start of a new day in this white paradise which we commence with a traditional light breakfast, once again accompanied by the finest of views. It is now time for the real adventure to begin!
Once again we board our Airbus ACH130 accompanied by our mountain guide in search of the highest peaks in the region for some incredible heli-skiing away from the conventional tourist covered slopes.
The helicopter handles the alpine winds incredibly well, giving us a smooth and relaxed flight up into the clouds. Yet again the bubble windows of the cockpit provide all-round visibility allowing us to fully appreciate the beauty of our location, something you could never experience from ground level.
As we approach 3300 metres the pilot sets us down at Corvastch Peak before executing an unsurprisingly smooth landing.
The helicopter soon departs, diving briskly into the valley below, leaving us alone with our skis. What an experience!
Its time to go off-piste and enjoy the empty slopes as we have the mountain to ourselves. Perhaps we’ll race the ACH130 to the foot of the mountain, where it will be ready and waiting to pick us up!
