ON THE ROCK
Tonight I’m off to an important event in Monte-Carlo, the kind that requires the utmost of class. For this occasion, I wanted to share my outfit of choice with you—the must-wear tuxedo that’s spruced up with some rock n’roll touches thanks to a few handmade in London SHEEVA jewelry pieces.
Before heading off to the event, I want to take advantage of the beautiful weather here today in the principality, and there’s no better place for me to clear my head and take a walk than Monaco City, also nicknamed Le Rocher, or The Rock.
Extending out on a cape above the Mediterranean Sea, this is my favorite area in the second-smallest country in the world (when it’s not packed with tourists). Le Rocher is one of the four neighborhoods in Monaco, which also include La Condamine, Fontvieille and probably the most famous of them all, Monte-Carlo.
While Monaco seems luxurious, glamorous and fast-paced at times, The Rock shows off a different side of the country that’s more serene and authentic. This is where the old town is located, a small village with quiet cobblestone streets designed just for pedestrians. It’s always a pleasure to stroll along these streets, stopping for lunch or dinner in one of the great restaurants when the town isn’t so busy.
Le Rocher is also where you’ll find landmarks like the Oceanographic Museum, Saint Nicholas Cathedral, Museum of the Chapel of Visitation, St Martin Gardens and Chapelle de la Misericorde, one of Monaco’s oldest buildings, built in 1639. It’s also home to the Prince’s palace, which was built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress before the Grimaldi family took over in the late 13th century.
For the event this evening, I chose a custom-fitted Brooks Brothers tuxedo that I’m walking around in today, taking a moment to enjoy the calm scenery before tonight’s busy and glamorous affair. The classic black bow tie stands out against the white formal shirt that’s lined with black buttons, while the cummerbund adds a retro effect when the jacket is open.
I picked out a few of her bracelets that are crafted with onyx and leather and accented with sterling silver skulls and roses. One of my rings plays on the theme of snake skin, sculpting this textured look into the silver, while the other one has a huge skull with diamonds for eyes and the number 13 inscribed. For some people, this number is a sign of bad luck, while others think the opposite. I personally like this number since I was born on the 13th of June, which just so happens to be the same birthday as the designer herself.
To top off the tux, I went for Sheeva’s sterling silver rose design cufflinks, which add quite an elegant touch. Of course I couldn’t complete the look without the perfect shades, so I continued the rock n’ roll trend wearing a pair of edgy Barton Perreira sunglasses.
As the sun starts to set, that’s my cue it’s almost time to head off for the event. But before I go, I want to indulge in a gentleman’s pleasure: smoking a cigar.
And to light it up, I have not found a better lighter than the spectacular Spectre Limited Edition by S.T.Dupont.
The legendary “cling” lighter draws inspiration from the famous James Bond 007 gun barrel and perfectly reflects the elegance, refinement and cutting-edge technical innovation characterizing the iconic secret agent.
With its one-of-a-kind design and discrete 007 inscription on the side, I truly feel both empowered and stylish as I light up my cigar. Now I’m ready to roll!
Stay classy, stay edgy and let’s rock it!
